Why is bamboo so important for sustainable development, and what can other countries learn from China's management of the bamboo sector? This short briefing note introduces bamboo's potential for environmental protection, and the development of the sector in China to date. The note includes a short case study of Chishui, in Guizhou province: an area which demonstrates the many benefits of cultivating bamboo.
